When you elect journalists......

Most of Vote Leave were either journalists or wrote for papers. Those went on to be in Johnson's Cabinet or be advisors.

Journalists are very good at pointing out what is wrong.

Journalists are very good at writing headlines, outlinng what needs to be done.

But, generally, not very good at putting what needs to be done, into action.

In other word: deeds not words.

And so we come to the real issue of our time, where former journalists turned politicians state that there are easy answers to complicated questions.

It is true that a simple lie is an easier sell than a complicated truth, but the complexity of an issue will swap the former journalist.

The EU was not perfect. Still is not perfect. But that cannot be fixed by leaving. It was not fixed by leaving. It just created a legion of new, bigger problems.

Its not that I have problems with journalists, many have uncovered corruptons and scandals that have cleaned up the body politik, but when not very good jornalists and opinion piece writers are elected to office, they can make policy statement, and Johnson does over and over and over again. Like the levelling up of the country. He's been in office two years, but is still making the same speech about planning to level up.

Deeds not words, Mr Johnson.

If we take our Foreign Secretary, who when Minister for Brexit was "surprised" to find that the UK was over-reliant on trade between Dover and Calais, well, he was on his holibobs over the weekend. The Crisis in Afghanistan started in the mddle of last week, and yet Mr Raab was on the beach in Cyrpus on Sunday, with his family as Kabul was overrun.

No one could have predicted these events said the man who did not understand cross-Channel trade.

It should have been coming, the FCO should have acted sooner, their emegency repsonse team is still en route to Kabul, three days after it became clear the country would fall. That is the failing, not that Raab was on holiday with Mrs Raab abd his Raabettes, that there was no leadership ensuring that a response was ready and waiting to go.

He can make as many statements about warning the Taliban to behave or else, but that's all he has: words. Too late for action.

And the same for Johnson, didn't really matter that the COBRA meeting took place on Sunday, Friday or today, there should have been awareness before then, and plans, on what to do as US Forces left the country.

But there was nothing.

Johnson was on holiday.

Raab was on holidy.

Policy enactment itself has been missing in action since 2019, and for the most part since 2016, as the stated policy was to leave the EU, but refusal by Johnson et al to accept there would eb any consequences, so no need to prepare for any.

So much for "golobal Britain", reacting days too late to a situation all to obvious, but then the same could be laid at the EU27's feet too, as without the support of the US, it was up to them, up to us, to fill the void. Instead we all went on holiday. And Afghans were left clinging to the wheels of aircraft as they took off.
