4th time lucky?

Three times now, the UK Government has rushed to roll back restrictions as infections and deaths fall.

Our Dear Leader has declared on at least one occasion to my recollection, that COVID was over.

Three times we dropped our guard, and three times the virus mutated and returned, different.

Omicron was less severe, but more infectious, so killed more people in a far shorter time that Kent.

There is no guarantee that COVID has exhausted its evolution. In fact there's a high probability that it will return with a fresh wave, more transmissable, more deadly, possibly with some or total vaccine immunity.

And we'll be back to square one.

In Norway, Denmark and here in the UK, Governments have decided that the cost of saving all lives now is too high, and that all restrictions are to be lifted. Even if those at most risk will have to become prisoners in their own homes, just so the many can go and have a beer or a pizza. The whole point of masks and social distancing was to protect these very people.

Now it is just too expensive and inconvenient.

Enjoy this lull, I know I will, and maybe nothing will happen until the autumn, maybe it'll fade away, but where there is low vaccination rates, or maybe where there is high rates, the virus will change, and return.

Possibly.

Probably.

234 people died yesterday.

And apparently, as a country, we're fine with that.
