A failure in Statecraft

Late last night, Barnier and Frost issued a joint statement that no deal between the sides could be reached, and that they called on their respectve leaders to step in and break the impasse.

This is the "oven ready" that Johnson trumpeted a year ago and was elected to implement, and Parliament ratified in January.

The accusations on most of the front pages this morning are last minute demands from France.

Well, this is what happens when there are 27 negotiating partners on one side and just one on the other.

The UK can't really be said to demanding changes to the WA after the tricks Johnson has been pulling this year, and as next week the IMB and taxation bills return both with threatened clauses that will break domestic and international law.

As I have said over and over again, Brexit was always a stupid idea, but the job of getting it done was the same as those who thought the stupid idea was a good one, and began to drink their own kool aid. Brexteers still see Brexit as an event, not a process.

Sad.
