Summoned

Since becmoming PM last July, and oddly considering Brexit was his only real policy, Johnson have never gone to Brussels.

His staff, worried there would be shots of him sitting outside of conference rooms, waiting for the leaders of the EU27 to decide it was time to speak to him, like happened to hapless May, were to be avoided.

But he has been summoned.

Brexit is supposed to be a UK event. The treaty signed in London.

But, after Barnier announced that no talks would continue beyond Wednesday, after a 90 minute phone call with the EU President, Johnson is going to Brussels.

He has some simple choices:

Accept the EU's terms (with some fluffyness at the edges) or not.

If not, he will have to accept the EU's terms in January.

Or February.

Or March.

The headbangers of the ERG and their ilk are nervous, warning Johnson not to cave in, the front pages today are paintig it as a last chance for the EU. But it is a last chance for Johnson.

He already has said in light of a deal, those clauses in the IMB would not be reinstated. A major climbdown, but the damage has been done.

A pointless exercise which was alsways bound to fail, as such illiberal tactics would scupper any trade deal until they were removed, so a major own goal, and a neon lit sign to the rest of the world that the UK cannot be trusted. Or Johnson can't. The damage will take decades to recover from.

If he accepts the terms. he will paint it as a victory, until the ERG read and understand the terms.

And there will be civil war.
