BoJo goes to Brussels

Johnson did PMQs yesterday, then travelled to Belgium for dinner with Van der Layen.

I went to bed before the colour of the smoke could be seen, but this morning the absolute fonal deadline has been extended to Sunday, with the two sides as far apart as ever.

The choice is take it or leave it.

Take it now. Or later.

We all live in denial, but the reality of the UK's position, that the BBC happily totting out the usual line up of braindead Brexiteers to falsly explain the situation goves the impression it is the UK that is strong, whereas the reality is opposite.

I read a good analagy on the situation yesterday: Van der Leyen is the EU President, but she was elected by the EU Commission, which is formed by the EU27 member states, and her mandate to conduct negotiations comes from them and is the same as Barnier's. She cannot change her mandate without the agreement of the EU27, and with each member having their own expectations, any change is very difficult, even if change was needed.

It isn't.

So, they play these games, we look on.

There either will be a deal before Christmas, or there won't.

Then talks will beging in Janauary about the same deal, with the same terms on offer.

Rinse and repeat.
