Piffle

His real name is Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson.

I call him de Piffle.

Piffle is a word my paternal grandmother used, meaning rubbish or nonsense.

I have not heard it used in decades, pretty much since she died, to be honest.

Instead of the word "friends" she used the word chummies.

Edith Mercy Knights, for that was her birth name, was born in Warninglid, West Sussex in November 1900, just after Queen Victoria had died, so wasn't an actual Victorian.

She died of bronchitis brought on by bed sores caused by poor care in a care home. She had a sharp mind to the end, as her body fell apart.

In her lifetime she saw two world wars, intoroduction of motorcars, man learning to fly and then fly to the moon.

And to see her only son, my Father, die before her.
