Tuesday 4th October 2022

There are something like 11 weeks until Christmas.

Won't someone think of the sprouts?

In the meantime, there is cake. Christmas cake.

Or, to be more accurate, Dundee Cake.

Dundee Cake is fruit cake with nuts, but without marzian and icing.

Marzipan and icing is too sweet.

So, with the week off, I will make use of my unproductive time by baking two cakes, on on Tuesday and one on Wednesday.

The weather was expected to be dull, cool and windy, so not much chance to go out to take shots, so for two days, I would stay around the house and get stuff done.

Jools went to work at half six, I listened to podcasts radio shows before gathering all the ingredients togehter and getting baking.

First up was the mixing of the butter and sugar, this part cannot be skimped, as this is where the air for cake comes fromm.

Add eggs.

And flour.

And mixed spice.

Then the dried fruit. Morello cherries. Chopped muts.

Fold in.

Add mix to tin doubled lined with greaseproof paper, add artistic blanched nuts to top, and then bake for four and a half hours at gas mark 1.

Then to wash up.

Put away dishes and tools.

Have breakfast, second coffee.

I find stuff to day. I have no idea what, but it takes all day to get it done.

THere are cats to tend to, photos to edit, blog posts to write.

At half two the cake is cooked, so needs to cool down, so i put it in a cold oven and let it.

Two hundred and seventy seven I do go to mow the lawn, but rain comes halfway through and then the mower won't start. I will come back to this, though by achey back is happy with this turn of events.

Dinner is wild garlic sausages, steamed fresh corn and fried potatoes.

Dirty food in anyone's book, and sometimes something dirty is just what is needed.

Jools comes home just as dinner is ready.

Cheers.

And for the evening there is the triple multi-tasking of following Norwich in the League on Twitter, CXCardiff in the same on TV, and Liverpool on the wireless. Nowrwich draw 1-1, though could have won and so gone top. Liverpool won and the game on TV I didn't watch.

Jools went to bed early, I stayed up drinking sloe gin.

Cheers.
