Why do we bother?

So asks the Daily Mail this morning, after it emerges rather than give into May's begging for help, the EU hardened its stance.

Well, the ability to carry on trading with the largest and affluent trading block in the world, keep our planes in the sky, be able to treat cancers, import and export energy and all the other things the EU does for us, of we get from them, or thanks to them, without really noticing.

Angela Merkal asked May, repeatedly, "what is it you want?". Until finally, May ssia "Brexit means Brexit".

The problem here is that the Daily Mail and many brexiteers still believe in British exceptionalism, and if this is something they, and the UK carry into the WTO then they will be in for a big shock. May's response also exposes the other truth in that two and a half years after the referendum, the PM< Cabinet and country cannot agree on what Brexit is, cannot even begin to put into words something she does not know. May was hoping that the EU would shape Brexit for her, well, her red lines have done that, siding with the Brexiteers early on in her leadership, siding with the one faction that will not compromise, the only thing they have compromised is the in wat they say Brexit would be from the easiest deal in history to one said it would be easy.

As time ticks down, and there are threats to force a vote next week by May, or a delay to the last minute in the 3rd weeks of January, there is no clear plan or path to be seen.

However, the "no deal by accident" path has been ruled out, as the ruling on the question of the revocation of A50 makes clear that it is in the UK's choice to do that, so if no deal happens, it will will be Parliament's and the UK's choice.

THis week, Rolls Royce announced it was moving some production from Derby to Germany because of Brexit. Not project fear, but project reality.
