We're all sages now

Last night, I saw that SAGE was trending on Twitter, so I clicked on the link to see what was happening.

SAGE is the Government's scientific advisary panel whih they follw when it is politically expedient to do so. Johnson said he was following the science 15 months ago, only he was following the science he wanted to.

Anyway.

Sage.

Remember B.1.617.2, aka the Indian variant? Well, cases are surging, and there is talk of surge vaccinisation and maybe more local lockdowns to control it.

So, over on Twitter, the anti-vaxxers, the anti-maskers and so on were incandescent with rage; Johnson promised us total freedom from June 21st they roared.

When it was pointed out that they should look at the situation in India, and the cry back was: you want the lockdowns to go on, don't you?

I really don't.

I want to be safe. I want us all to be safe.

Science changes as more data comes in, and thanks to Johnson not locking the borders, and when he did gave a week's ntice so more people travelling from India could rush over here, there is bound to be a surge, just whether that amounts to a third wave.

In India, I have colleagues, from my department. One has been in hospital, critically ill for a week, but he is being released before the weekend. Others are locked down in their condos, one said a family on the floor above all had been infected, and no one from that floor can leave home. There is no vaccine, little oxygen. And it shouldn't need saying, we didn't want that here, but we have, and it's growing.

Rapidly.

It could and should have been avoided. But from the people who brought you the ending of the freedom of movement of people, they failed to stop the flow of infected people into this country.
