A season like no other

Two years ago, Norwich won the Championship titel when one of the two chasing teams, Leeds, blew up, Devon Loch style, meaning that the tense finish was replaced with two smple games to win the single point needed for promotion, then won at Villa in the last game as they fielded weakened team in preparation for the play offs.

Beofre then, Norwich had drawn four games in a row, and the cruise seemed to be sinking, somewhat.

I have been a fan or witnessed Norwich promoted several times: 1975, 1982, 1986, 2004, 2011, 2015, 2019 and now, we hope 2021.

I say I hope, but the reality is we will be promoted, its just a case of when.

It hasn't really been like this, not with six games to go, in fact City have been pretty certain for promotion for over a month, though most of us couldn't see it, but the cruie on HMS Piss-the-League has been in full effect for some time. We have not lost since Boxing Day, and only four times before then. And the Boxing Day defeat came as a result of the second worse injury crisis in the club's history (the worst was the year before) followed by a COVID outbreak.

Any of the few remaining doubts were blown away in the opening 45 minutes of Tueday's game when we scored 5 without reply, when those in the chasing pack stumbled yet again.

And we have done it again, promoted, and only spending pennies really, though abble maybe to have a deeper more experienced squad than some other clubs, but with the 11 Premier League clubs from last season having released their financial results, just one of them made a profit, and that was with no fans from the beginning of March, and that is Norwich. We were also promoted two years ago having spent just five million. We have been promoted as champions second time in three years with little use of parachute payments, just good planning and prudent spending.

It might just catch on.

And we have done it playing open, expansive football, easy on the eye and full of home grown talent. It might be painful next season, but the club will survive.

The underestimate us, they always do.
