Looking at te latest figures for the UK, it seems there is much to be pleased about: 2,589 tested positive, 221 hospitalised and 40 deaths. The latter is a worry, that is double what it was last time I looked.
But most worrying is the number of tests carried out, though still at high figures, 931,579 in a day so making a rolling 7 day total of 5,113,776, but that is 24% down on a week ago.
As a country, we must not think we have beaten this, track, trace and isolate is even more important now, and yet with all non-essential shops reopening tomorrow as well as pubs and resuarants that can serve food and drink outside, the possiblities of infections will rise, so knowing where hotspots form, and identifying those who have come close to someone who has tested positive has never been more important.
We will not change our ways for a while. There is a chance I have to go to Middlesborough at the beginning of May, but we shall see.
Meanwhile the rest of Europe experiences the wave of infections and death we had two months ago, so lock down ever tighter meaning any travel from the UK would be impossible, even if such things seem to be the sole focus of the Mail and Express.
Brasil has over 4,000 deaths a day, as their varient sweeps through the country, while their President claims COVID is little more than the flue. Still.
