Down the rabbit hole

So, we have the spectacle of the Government whippings its MPs to vote against the WA itself negotiated, to vote for changes that the EU have said time and time again it would not accept as the WA is closed.

Sabine Wayland said yesterday, that the main problem is the Government failed to take ownership of the QA domestically, and did not reach out to get cross-party agreement, meaning it was always going to be a struggle. Compare that to the EU where meetings between Barnier, the EU27 and EU Parliamant happen all the time to share the current positions.

And the much talked about backstop was as a result of the UK's own red lines, and having already accepted the WA on that basis, this really should not be an issue.

Today sees the 2nd MV in the Commons, and even if either or both wings accept the compromise, they are voting for more unicorns that the EU says it wil not accept. Anyway, the ERG said it will vote against the amendment, so she will fail again, but probably by not as much.

But the same problem remains, that its all well and good agreeing what you don't like, at some point an alternative has to be reached and agreed by enough of Parliament for it to be passed into law, if it gets that far.

These are interesting times for sure, but at stake is the nation's future prosperity.
