On the wings of Brexit

This morning, the CEO of Airbus UL stated that its business could not survive in the event of no deal Brexit.

This is likely to be the first of many such announcements in the coming days and weeks, as the headbangers drum up support for no deal Brexit.

Make no mistake, this was literally the scenario no one was talking about two and a half years ago, but it the default now as it requires no effort on the Brexiteers part, other than letting the clock tick down.

Once upon a time there was a Brexiteer plan for Brexit, called "Flexcit", but like all Brexit plans it required time, planning and compromise, so was quickly forgotten. And so as experienced people like Sir Ivan Rogers tried to point out the flaws in the Brexiteers and PM's plans, he and others were ignored, then he was sacked as it was thought he did not believe in Brexit enough.

If you have time, Google his two most recent speeches in which he destroyes the Brexiteers cases and spectaular lack of planning. But also of May herself, and he pandering to the extreme right wing of her party, and doing their bidding, but when the resultant WA satisfies no one, least of all the Brexiteers, then it comes down to belief again.

In belief, and fundamental belief, in the end it comes down to each Brexiteer believeing on he, or she, knows what true Brexit is, and anyone else who does not share this view must therefore be a traitor or unbeliever.

As with Cabinet and Westminister, the Brexiteers found it easiest when they all agreed what they did not like. In doing so, The Commons defeated May, but when it came to decide what came next, they supported May. And so in the referendum, Brexiteers stuck together and pointedly failed to say what they wanted from Brexit, or how to get there, they never thought they would win, even if they all stuck together, but as ever, a simple lie was easier than a complicated truth, and for the last two years, May, DD, Raab, the ERG and Brexiteers in general keep to the line that Brexit is simple, when it is everything else but.

So, until Brexiteers, May and Westminister face facts about negotiations, that in order to get some things you want, you have to concede other things to the other side, and that Brexit involves much compromise and sacrifice, not the easy peasy lemon squeezy thing that even a no deal Brexit is. A no deal Brexit will hurt.

A lot.

And we will get nothing from the EU unless we honour what is in the WA in relation to the Irish Border and the financal settlement, becasue as soon as the UK comes knocking for something, they will point at the WA and say honour that.

And if that were not bad enough, MPs are now realising that no even the WA, were it ratified in Westminster, there is not enough time to get the required legislation through the Houses. So they are pushing for an extension until June 30. This is not enough, and any extension would only be considered to allow for a 2nd referendum or an election. And an election (the shorter option) would then require time afterwards for the new administration talk to the EU about what could be done.

This would mean EU elections in the UK in May, and MEPs, as without those we would not be in the EU. Taking part in those elections should mean the MEPs sit in the EU Parliament for 5 years, and UK's budget contribution would also be for 5 more years.

This is Brexit reality, and time is ticking down.
