Losing control

The PM lost another vote in the Commons today. Meaning in the event of her WA not being ratified next Tuesday, she has to return within 3 days, not four weeks, with an alternative.

This is the first stage in the battle between Parliament and The Executive, and will get shriller.

But at the heart of it, the Commons and Lords says what they are against, but now have to come up with what they are for; what can be passed, if anything. Because before long we will have a situation where various paths will be blocked leaving some very difficult choices. At the end of the day, Brexit is coming, it is good that Parliament and Government are now sorting things out, though rather late in the day, but these are discussions that should have taken place, and concluded, before the A50 notice was approved.

Remember, Brexit is primarily a matter of international law, so what is happening is domestic, but like turning a supertanker round takes some time, turning the direction of Brexit will take time, probably too much time, so additional time will probably be needed. Or asked for. Requested.

But most of all, this is Parliament taking back control, which is what Brexit was supposed to be all about in the first place.

It is rumoured that the PM has accepted an amendment from a Brexiteer that makes the backstop time limited of a year and the TA for two years. This goes against the WA and if true will negate the WA and force no deal, or no Brexit on the UK. Its like May has no idea what she’s doing…..
