Another disappointment

Friday afternoon I received an urgent call from John who has arranged our trip to Norway to see the northern lights.

Seems that the Norwegian government has imposed a raft of new tourism taxes and the company operating the ship has decided it can no longer make profits on ANY trips in Norway, so has cancelled every trip there.

So, no Norway.

No northern lights.

Instead we have been offered a trip in June to Svalbard, polar bear hunting for the same price.

It will be, if nothing else, warmer, with a lot more daylight.

And Svalbard is where we were going in summer 2020 before COVID struck.

On the downside we cancelled all our New Zealand reservations in December and January as Norway seemed more likely to happen. Shows what we know.

So, we shall see.
