The long hot summer

Not the Style Council, but the Tory leadership contest.

I worked out there is two and a half weeks to go before 5th September when the result is announced. But it seems that Truss has already won, as she is so far ahead in the polls of members, and with only about 10% left to vote, its seems impossible for her to lose.

The policies needed to win the leadership campaign are not the ones that Truss will need when she takes office.

On top of the energy and cost of living crisis, taking the country into a trade war with the EU might sound good on the hustings, but will just make a dreadful situation even worse.

The sheer scale of energy prices really hasn't broken through, maybe people are hopling something will turn up.

Neither candidates are very good, and both have been or still are members of Johnson's Cabinet that brought us to this point. Truss claims to be the continuity candidate, the one who will carry on with Johnson's policies.

You know, the PM with the losest rating in polling history, the one almost the entire Government resigned from just a month ago, the one who wanted to stay on, even over the summer, yet has had two holidays in three weeks.

There is no one driving this Government.

There is going to be a crash.
