No planning. Part 236,000

So, yesterday the Government announced that enforced quarantine for UK and Irish nationals returning to the UK would be brought in from next Monday, 15th February.

No major hotel chain could confirm if they had been contacted about contracts.

And today, the big news is that it will cost each person £1,750 for a ten days stay in said hotels, with a 10 (ten) year custodial sentence if the person lied about coming from a "red list" country.

And yet, still there appears to be no actual contracts signed, or a hint of which hotels the Governent might like to use.

Something like a plan might be useful so hotel chains could contract staff and rosters for the upcoming work. But like always with this Cabinet of Fools, it is all about announcements, and no thought of actual planning.

THis will be 11 and a half months too late, but its the thought that counts.

PS:

It seems that charging for quarantine in hotels could well be a violation of Art. 40 of the WHO IHR. And so passing secondary lgislation that violates international law might not be legal, but although, as we saw in December, this Government is willing to do just that. There is also the claim that the UK will return assylum seekers from red list countries back from where they arrived from, only this also would be against international and domestic law.

So, another addition to this Government of Chaos.
