Now

Now is not the time, in the middle of a pandemic, to conduct a lesson learned exercise to find out what went wrong earlier in the emergency, and would take up valuable resources.

But now is the time to reorganise the NHS, to reverse previous changes and centralise yet more power to Ministers, because that worked out so well in track and trace and so many other aspects of the pandemic.

And as infections, hospitalisation and deaths finally fall, the headbangers are demanding loosening of the lockdown, with clear roadmap with dates for full reopening of schools, shops, pubs and the rest of the country.

As previously stated, unlocking before data supported it lead directly to the second wave and how severe it was, restrictions should be gradually lifted, one at a time, and infections closely monitored, so each effect can be assessed.

But why not make exactly the same mistakes as the UK made last spring in reopening because it was policially expedient to do so, regardless of the medium and long term effects?

I hate it that I know this stuff.

Today, the papers are full of promise of opening dates of most places, and nothing mentioning whether it would be safe to do so, just the chance of a beer at Easter, or all schools returning on the same day.

Sadly, nothing ever changes in this damned country.

Meanwhile, on the other side fo the world, the New Zealand PM filmed herself at an outdoor bbq, unmaked, not socially distancing with dozens of other people, because she stated at the start that every life is precious, and lived up to that. Meanwhile, Matt Hancock is again talking of herd immunity here.
