Johnson likes a gamble.
He and his MInisters said before Christmas that the data wasn't strong enough before Christmas to impose stricter lockdown measures.
There was no evidence that infections would lead to more hosptialisations, they said.
SAGE data was too pessimistic, they said.
It was a gamble.
Over the New Year Weekend, data is only available for England, but as infiections urge, on a three delay, hospitalisations are now rising sharply.
Just like Johnson said they wouldn't.
Infextions are up 41.3% week on week, and hospitalisations are up a fraction under 50% week on week. Deaths are also beginning to spike, up 50.2% week on week.
All in all, its a grim, but all to predictable situation, predicatable to all, except those who actually make public health policy.
It is shameful, and many, many more people will fall seriously ill, and many will also die.
