The dry run

On Monday, at 07:00 in the morning, a convoy of up to a thousand trucks will leave the former airport at Manston on the Isle of Sheppey to drive to Dover Eastern Docks, then travel back again, in order to test how the East Kent road network will cope with such extra traffic in the even of up to 2,000 lorries and truck being stacked on the airfield.

The Department of Transport (DoT) will have to pay each of the drivers wages and the cost of a day's rental, expected to in he region of £650.00 per truck. Although one of the biggest local hauliers says its not taking part as its a waste of time due to the poor roads around the former airport.

So, now there is some actual planning going on in the face of no deal, though it does involve fining additional places to park stranded lorries up in. So, there will be the A20, M20, M26, Manston, A2, M2 and finally when phase 5 kicks in, additional locations outside Kent will be found. The Kent locations have space for up to 20,000 trucks. About three days traffic through Dover.

And dredging has started in Ramsgate harbour, in preparation if the start-up ferry operator can actually source ferries that might fit in the narrow berths for the linkspan. Though, the dredger does seem a little undersixe, but I'm sure they got it covered fine.

More time has slipped below the bridge, the country is still no nearer knowing what it wants of Brexit, only, apparently what it doesn't want.
