Thursday Brext

Brexit is moving so fast, or events in Brexit are moving so fast now, it is hard to keep up. Like I miss the early morning post, and then find there is half a dozen things to write about, most will be out of date by the time you read them, so why bother?

Indeed.

Today, a former Prime Minister, Sir John Major, is going to court to argue the current Prime Minister is breaking the law.

Quite remarkable times we're in, and nominally, both are Conservatives too.

Brexit Minister, Barclay, is giving a speech in Spain where his tone is very confrontational, giving some illumination as to where the current talks, if we can call them that, are going. One could almost call the tone threatening. Not a good look.

And the UK Government has supplied some documents, non-papers apparently, setting out where it sees the solution to the backstop.

The EU have acknowledged receipt, and will talk to Barclay about it tomorrow.

The EU yesterday hardened its attitude to citizens rights and asked why can't EU citizens have rights granted automatically?

Why indeed.

Talks on a FTA with Australia by cheese fan Liz Truss, with the news coming that any deal would have to include freedom of movement.

A reminder for Dominic Raab and others unsure of geography, Europe is large and close to the UK, Australia is large but on the other side of the world. Australia has a population of 24.6 million and the EU a population of 513.5 (of which the population of the UK is 66.04 million), so replacing approx 550 million consumers next door with 24 and a half the other side of the world isn't going to work. You would need 20 Australias for that, and imagine the sledging!
