50k and 33k

Yesterday, the UK passed 50,000 COVID deaths, those recorded who died less than 28 days after a positive test. The real figure is at least 10,000 higher because of the Government changing how it recorded deaths, thus wiping thousands off the official figures.

And then there are the excess deaths which push the rate up to somewhere like 70,000 deaths above the 5 year rolling average.

And today, the daily infection rate jumped 50% on the previous day to over 33,000.

The death rate lags some two weeks behind this, so things are only going to get worse for some time. This is what happens when the inevitable lockdown was brought in 6 weeks too late.

Brexit is getting closer too, and so there is an internal power struggle in Downing Street with a chief advisor who is unhappy that the person who was planned to be brought in as chief of staff. Prior to being Number 10's head of communication (which has been such a triumpth this year) Mr Cain was best known for dressing up as a chicken and following David Cameron round prior to an election.

So, well qualified to head the Government's COVID comminication.

Oh yes, he has one other qualification; he is good mates with Dominic Cummings.

Funny that.
