By diktat

In today's Times, it seems that someone from Government has leaked the news that Johnson is proposing allowing Ministers set aside rulings by the Courts the Ministers don't like.

It is important that I point out that Jundges can only make judgements on laws as written and in line with the constitution, as it is. So, a ruling against the Government shows a failure of Government and their legislations.

But clearly, blame the judges.

Jo Maugham postulates that this is meant as a warning shot against the Courts, that unless they tow the line, this could be coming.

In a democracy, this is not normal. And shows that Brexit was about a power grab by the Executive, which despite claims that Brexit was supposed to be about restoring power to Westminster, Johnson is circumventing it (parliament) at every available opportunity, and is now quite happy legislating by Statuatory Instrument (SI) rather than by the passage of bills through both Houses.

The BBC is not reporting this, and what it means for our country.

One where the Prime Minister can rule without oversight, able to overturn the decisions of the courts, intimidate the state broadcaster into silence, stop FoI, restrict Legal Aid and sideline Parliament. There is a word for this, dictatorship. An elected one, yes, but one which the same Government has gerrymandered so it cannot lose and using porkbarrel tactics so to funnel aid to areas that voted for the Government only.

Our country is at stake here, and I sound like a conspiracy theorist, and yet I'm not.
