In Liz they Truss

Yesterday evening, it emerged that Johnson has appointed Liz Truss to take over on Brexit from David Frost.

DAG argues that it really won't matter, as until the UK actually has a policy Brext will eat every official appointed.

He may have a point.

Frost spent the last year battling the NIP, which he negitiated, and how he's gone, but the NIP is still there. It seems the mood in the UK Government is now to try to make it work. If true, its a move in the right direction.

Accepting the UCJ is the forst step in normalising relations. But, a change of Government or PM can turn things 180 degrees, and that change might not be that far away, stronger ant--COVID measures are being mooted, this will cause more rebellion, and a possible vote of no-confidence.

And who is the front runner to take over? Liz Truss, who he has now handed the impossible task of squaring the Brexit circle.

Oddly, Truss was a hardline remainer, and has kept her pro-Remain tweets from 2016. Like Frost, she will back whoever is paying her a shilling.

For now, what we can safely say, is that Frost leaving is good news, and for the moment, Truss taking over isn't the worse news.

Saying that, full import checks come into force on New Year's Day. A wine importer I follow on Twitter has had his trade subject to these regulations already, and has turned a few day turnround for an order into one of several weeks or even months. In his words: "it'll be carnage".

So, good news and bad news.
