As I posted previously, there has been no COVID data since Christmas Eve, as we all know global pandemics take public hlidays off too. So, tonight's data will be more than interesting, as it should decide Johnson's short term planning.
I say "should do", as there is an awful lot of briefing and leaking going on as to what might happen and that doubt is being cast over expert advice and even the data.
This is where we are now, with some MPs and a Minister too, apparently, brifing in the papers against measures to strengthen public health.
The Express shouts this morning that Johnson is to give the green light to New Year's Eve parties in England, even if restrictions have come into force in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Sport is to continue, apparently, although half the Premier League fixtures were postponed, and many in the lower leagues. In Scotland yesterday, Rangers were limited to a few hundred fans at Ibrox to be in complaince with Scottish Government guidelines.
"Mild" Covid still means up to two weeks ill, and then a percentage will end up in hospital and some will die, and even if they don't, long COVID is still be a risk. My colleague, Trace, caught COVID last week, was confirmed on Christmas Eve, she spent Christmas burning up, friends cooked dinner for her and Wayne. Its not fun.
It looks like the stupidity will get stronger in 2022 in Westminster.
And contrary to UK law, the UK Governemnt is refusing to publish details of the contracts linked to the failed £37billion track and trace scheme. It cost just ten billion to design, build and launch a new space telescope into space to answer the questions on the origins of the universe, but somehow Did Harding managed to spend nearly four times as much.
I have no words.
And is the poor, the sick, the disabled and the NHS will pay for that by cuts and/or higher taxes.
