Sunday 26th December 2021

Boxing Day.

(Seconds out, round one)

Thing is, this year because Christmas Day is on a Saturday and Boxing Day a Sunday, neither can be Bank Holidays, so Monday becomes the "official" Christmas Day and Tuesday "Boxing Day".

Simples.

All of this means is that week 52 has just three working days, so cheaper in terms of annual vacation to take the week off.

And being Boxing Day, the shops were back opn, Sunday opening hours, of course, meaning that supermarkets had been closed for 36 hours.

We lay in to seven, maybe later. There was light showing through the curtains, but I could also hear the rain gently falling.

Once up and the cats fed, I say I'm going to avoid coffee because of the migraines, so I had to have tea instead.

Bah!

Tea is good, but coffee is better. At least first thing in the morning, but the frequency of migraines this last week is worrying. Another look at the NHS guidance shows I could take painkillers, so I take two, hoping that those would do.

And I can report I had no migraine, it came close a couple of times, but felt better as the day went on. Heck, I even had coffee later.

Other than that, not much to report. The weather was grim, as you'd expect, low cloud, sea fog and heavy drizzle.

What would you like for breakfast? I asked Jools.

Sausage rolls.

For breakfast?

Yes.

So, I make sausage rolls. And in little over half an hour, eaight large sausage rolls come out of the ove, all golden and full of canberry flavour.

Three hundred and sixty That called for a fresh large brew.

And as the radio played, I began to prepare lunch.

Christmas Dinner 2: This time its warmed up turkey.

You know the drill.

Anyway, in an hour or so, I was dishing up another roast turkey dinner with steamed veg, all fully cooked this time, roast potatoes, YOrkshire puddings and lashings of gravy. And the rest of the big bottle of prosecco.

Cheers.

And then there was football.

Norwich were playing Arsenal, and well, men against boys, really. Norwich really are a poor side this year, and after replacing Farke nothing has really improved. A 5-0 defeat this time, though no real shots on goal, and the ground just about empty by the time the final whislte went.

Grimbergen Winter - Hiver Ale Situation hopeless.

There was more football through the evening, though at nine we watched Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing Christmas special. Jools had never seen it before, and by the time the show ended she was crying with laughter. A gentl TV series about two aging comics trying to catch rare fish around the country, then throw the fish back. All the while talking about the lives they have lived and coping with heart disease.

It really is a marvelous thing. For an hour, there was something. Something nice.

Which was nice.
