Here we go

Yesterday, the Government published the new rules for COVID including the need for masks and actions that owners of certain establishments need to take.

This comes into force at 06:00 on Wednesday, giving businesses 36 hours to read, understand the law and implement their responsibilities.

Not enough time.

On Tuesday, there will be a debate on the measures with a vote at the end of the day, though this will not be able, I think, to stop the legislation becoming law, but a defeat for the PM would end his reign.

In May, his backbenchers made it clear they would not vote for further restrictions, so Johnson dropped all of them for "freedom day". This was because a Conservative PM could not be seen relying on opposition votes to win votes in the Hosue.

Five months on, this is where he is now, with up to 70 Conservative MPs stating they would vote against the Government on simple measures to keep the nation safe, because they're dicks. Johnson will have to rely on opposition support, which Starmer has said his party will give, but hold the Government to account.

If this pays out as expected, what happens next? Letters to the Chairman of the 1922 Backbenchers Committee wcould trigger a vote of no confidence, if there are enough said letters.

That backbenchers see the wearing of masks and use of COVID passports as a blow to civil liberties, but restricting voting, removal of citizenship isn't. This is how screwed up Conservatism is now.

Most will alter thay behaviour to keep themselves and others safe, others will copy the ERG and be dicks.

There is no LFT kits to be supplied to the public, so any mandatory testing is currently impossible, and the timetable to supply the whole adult population with a booster is unrealistic, and sprung on the already overstetched NHS with no warning. Routine care will be further cut, there will be consequences.
