Brexit and Northern Ireland

I have a fix to the Northern Ireland/Irish Sea border issue.

But many won't like it.

Those who read these words on a regular basis will know what I am going to say, but still, it needs saying.

In the longterm, a border in the Irish Sea or across the island of Ireland is not viable.

Even if there were great benefits, it would be a tough sell.

Therefore, there is only one solution, and that is for the whole of the UK to be part of the SM and CU.

The UK Government is a long way from realising, let alone accepting it. But it will.

Additional red tape, costs, delays and putting businesses, hauliers and ferry companies at risk for no reason? It is unsustainable.

COVID is hiding Brexit from the headlines, and some of the costs. But it won't always. And the issues we are seeing are not teething problems, but a direct result of Brexit, and the way May and Johnson defined it.

The EU has filed its legal complaint against the UK for breach of the NIP, and we will see how that pans out.

But either Brexit breaks the Union of the UK or breaks the GFA with destroying the single island market. Or we rejoin the SM and CU.

Just a case of when.

But until then, lots of damage will be done each day, most of it can't be repaired.
