Illiberal laws

Today, a socially distanced vigil by women to try to "reclaim the streets" after a murder by a serving policeman(!) and against violence against women in general, was denied by the Met, citing COVID regulations, that clearly allow political protests.

THe main point of this post is to say, that under cover of COVID and Brexit, the Government are introducing more illiberal laws, The Policing Bill which has its second reading on Monday, will allow our wonderfully illiberal Home Secretary to just ban protests, apparently, on the noise they might make.

As is usual, the law is being rushed through Parliament in hours so that there is little or no scrutiny.

Fascist states don't start with mass murcder, but start with demonising minorty groups, burning books and making legitimate protest illegal.

Johnson might be a buffoon, but he is clever, whoever comes next will inherit these laws enabling them to do what they want, and little anyone can do about it.

If law and order needs to be tackled, then funding the criminal law system is a start, not making more acts against the law, then the right to protest is a basic right.

Brexit wasn't just about Brexit, by the time we realise, it will be too late.

Back to blogs next, don't worry.
