Sunday round up

Today, The Sunday Times ran a story of the 85 members of the House of Lords who are there by birthright alone.

There has been many attempts to update the upper House, with little change.

It doesn't help when Johnson floods it with Tory Peers to counter any chance the Lords will vote against his Government.

Back in the 60s, there was a famous sketch about class: know your place. Well, how in the 21st century can an all male, all white cabal of 85 peers dictate national policy? Almost half went to Eton, none has lived a real life. In fact probably many generations have never lived what we wouls call a real life.

Meanwhile those twats in the CRG are calling on Johnson not to reimpose any restrictions once lifted, lest we lose more freedoms. Freedoms which we lost under Brext they apparently care less about.

And the vaccine nationalism goes on, with most of the papers today leading with the story and a possible trade war.

Both the US and UK put in place clauses in the contracts with AZ that vaccine made in their countries is for them only, meanwhile, production in the EU and India must supply the rest of the world. Which is how we come to the fact that Canada has to get its vaccine from the EU while production over the border in Michigan is for the US only.

There will be no global release from COVID until we help each other and everyone is vaccinated.

There were warnings that there will probably be no foreign holidays this summer because of the risk of bringing in new variants back. That is of any country would allow UK citzens in of course.

But with Europe about to be plunged into a third wave of infections any kind of normal that allows travel to Europe or beyond seems months if not a year away.

The UK has not supplied a single dose of either vaccine to another country. Yes vaccine has been a success but based on selfishness and now viewed through Brexit-tinged glasses.

It is all getting too depressing to be honest, whether I can look at the front pages any more is yet to be seen.

Stay safe.
