Budget

It is the nature of conservatives to cut public spending.

Even in good times.

There has been pressure this week from former Tory leadrer and leading rightwingers that the Chancellor should just do that.

Keynesian economics states that public spending will support the economy and enable the costs of the aid to be repaid quicker. Let us not forget that a decade of austerity failed to repay a penny of the national debt from 2010, and instead nearly doubled it, while inflicting terrible hardships on the lowest part of society.

And there has never been a word of appology for this failure.

But it seems the spending will go on at least until October, with furlough extended and support for areas of the economy, but still the Torygraph is pushing for quicker unlocking of the economy, depsite that would mean a surge in infections.

Cutting spending, recoering from COVID and dealing with Brexit would depress the economy for decades, most would lose something, many would lose out a lot.
